Scope:

This document aims to specify objective-based requirements to provide for system interoperability and for the
safety, security, and privacy of persons and/or property against vulnerabilities that can arise from the
implementation of Intelligent Building Systems. For its first edition, this Code is also intended to specify
requirements for resource efficiency and indoor air quality. Future editions may include additional objectives.
An Executive Committee is currently developing high-level requirements to meet the solution’s objectives. The
requirements are anticipated to be structured around data centric criteria in relation to Intelligent Building
Systems as follows:

a) Data Protection
b) Data Collectors
c) Data Flow
d) Data Management
e) Data Integrity

Examples of IBS include but are not limited to, systems with data capabilities like HVAC, Lighting, Access
Control, elevating devices, and Sensors.

Project need:

To support innovation in the built environment through the specification of safety, security and privacy objectives for an intelligent building system through the buildings design, specification, construction, installation, operation, and maintenance phases in the Canadian context.
