For more than three decades, Dr. Piero Ronca has demonstrated his commitment to global standardization. A chemical engineer, Dr. Ronca has spent his entire career with General Electric (GE) Canada in Peterborough, Ontario, developing electrical insulation. As part of this work, Dr. Ronca became extremely involved with the development and improvement of standards for both ASTM International and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Dr. Ronca first became involved in IEC/Technical Committee (TC) 15 (Electrical Insulation Material) and its subcommittees in 1976, as convener of several IEC/TC 15 working groups. He was subsequently appointed chairman of TC 15E (Insulation Test Methods). In 1994, Dr. Ronca co-founded and chaired the newly created IEC/TC 98, responsible for the main standards regarding the thermal rating of electrical insulation. In 2005, he founded and chaired IEC/TC 112, a combination of two previous technical committees addressing insulation materials and insulation systems. Displaying diplomacy, leadership and technical knowledge, Dr. Ronca is widely respected and regarded as an excellent chairman by colleagues and fellow committee members.
