The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) had the great privilege to welcome Sergio Mujica, Secretary-General at the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for a visit to Canada.
During his time in Ottawa and Toronto, he generously shared his insights with stakeholders across Canada’s standardization network, including federal and provincial regulators and government officials, standards development organizations and Canadian innovators.
He spoke passionately about the pivotal role that international standards can play in driving innovation, breaking down barriers to trade and how they can help advance Canada’s regulatory modernization agenda. Through inspiring examples, he showed us how standards are being used around the world to drive exciting new ideas. He also had the opportunity to meet and hear from Canadian innovators who are working with SCC as part of the Innovation Initiative.

While in Toronto at CSA Group offices, SCC also hosted a series of meetings with Mr. Mujica and key stakeholders, including the Standards Development Organizations Advisory Committee and Provincial-Territorial Advisory Committee, where conversations centred on the benefits of using and helping develop international standards. As well, Canadian innovators were invited to meet with Mr. Mujica and discuss the opportunities that standardization offers to help them gain access to new markets.
