Mkabi Walcott, Vice-President of Standards and International Relations at the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) has been elected to the International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) Technical Management Board for a two-year term.
The ISO Technical Management Board has responsibility for the general management of the technical committees that set international standards across industries. This includes the establishment, coordination and dissolution of ISO’s technical bodies; as well as the supervision of their activities, and the development and maintenance of the rules for the work of the ISO technical committees. ISO is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
“Mkabi’s career has been one dedicated to standards, bringing strong understanding of the importance and value of standardization, quality and systems management in the private and public sectors,” said Chantal Guay, Chief Executive Officer at SCC. “Her expertise, leadership and commitment have been recognized by the international community and will support the objectives of the ISO Technical Management Board.”
At SCC, Dr. Walcott is responsible for setting the priorities and direction of the Standards and International Relations Branch. She also oversees the Canadian standards development system, including the governance of SCC-accredited standards development organizations and contract management activities related to standards development.
Previously, Dr. Walcott was Senior Director, Global Standards Development, at SCC and served as the Director of the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards (SLBS) for five years. She has a breadth of experience in both technical and policy-related standards work, including serving as a member of the ISO/DEVCO Chair’s Advisory Group; Co-Convenor of the ISO/DEVCO Working Group Two; and as a member of the COPANT Board of Directors.
Dr. Walcott holds a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and has more than 15 years of experience working in standardization and project management.
