The Standards Council of Canada would like to congratulate Professor Jutta Treviranus for her well-deserved win of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 1906 Award. This prestigious award honours IEC international experts’ contributions to a project or activity that significantly contributes to advancing the work of the IEC.
Professor Treviranus was nominated by ISO/IEC JTC 1 in recognition of her role as lead editor for the individualized adaptability and accessibility in e-learning, education and training standards. The standards enable personalization of information technology systems and services so that the resource presentation and user interface configuration can adapt to each individual’s requirements. Professor Treviranus’ excellent work on these standards has served as a basis of several large-scale, multi-national, applied research projects in Europe, Canada and the United States to support digital inclusion.
Professor Jutta Treviranus is currently Director of the Inclusive Design Research Centre and professor in the Faculty of Design at OCAD University in Toronto. She also heads the Inclusive Design Institute, a multi-university regional center of expertise. She plays a leading role in developing accessibility legislation, standards and specifications internationally.
