Globe and Mail article on “Astroturfing” (fake online reviews)

qredekop's picture
Submitted by qredekop on Mon, 2014/12/01 - 10:45 to Consumer Safety / Sécurité des consommateurs

This is a very interesting article on “astroturfing” (fake online reviews) and how Bell Canada employees have put in stellar reviews about their own products which could result in fines of $200,000. Don’t think I’m against Bell because I’m not but I think there is an inherent controversy in what is being reported here. It also shows that there is a strong need for a standard on online reputation. Hopefully Canada will be a good leader and trend-setter in this area.

Getting Information on the Products That We Purchase

dkingston's picture
Submitted by dkingston on Fri, 2014/11/28 - 11:40 to Consumer Safety / Sécurité des consommateurs

You ever wondered after buying a product about the reliability and limited life cycle of that product, what to do if that product fails you or where and how you can find spare or replacement parts for that product that you have purchased?

Submitted by dkingston on Fri, 2014/11/28 - 10:06 to Consumer Safety / Sécurité des consommateurs

ISO is set to soon release the new ISO Guide on Addressing Accessibility in Standards.  The issue will be a touch point for all Canadians at some or several points within their lives.  This is an important element for us to consider when developing standards for products, services or for systems.

Are we ready to be in intimate relationship with our wearable devices?

Suzanna Ersoy's picture
Submitted by Suzanna Ersoy on Mon, 2014/11/24 - 15:01 to Consumer Safety / Sécurité des consommateurs

Please watch the following videos that examine our "new" intimate relationship with "cyberazzis" and our wearable devices. I would like to know what is your  opinion and how do you feel about how our privacy is being undermined, or is it, by data collectors? How much are you willing to share and how accessible you are willing to be?

Hope you enjoy the discussion

Jeanne Bank's picture
Submitted by Jeanne Bank on Sun, 2014/11/23 - 20:30 to Consumer Safety / Sécurité des consommateurs

Just wanted to share the news release on the publication of the new edition of the standard for alpine and snowboarding helmets. Conoformance with the standard requires 3rd party testing to ensure that products meet the requirements of the standard. Soon we should see certified helmets available. If you have any questions about the standard, let me know. Here is the link to the press release
