A Message from the Co-Chairs

Welcome to the Advisory Panel for the Canadian Young Professionals Program!

The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is excited to develop and implement a new Young Professionals (YP) Program that engages young professionals today, while positioning them to impact Canada's standardization network tomorrow.

SCC's modernized vision for the future dedicates time and resources to ensure effective Canadian representation at international forums. Young professionals are directly involved with these initiatives and this type of work, so it's important SCC provides the appropriate guidance, service and engagement to fully prepare and inspire them. Benefits for those involved in a YP Program will include:

  • National / International standardization awareness
  • Mentoring
  • Networking opportunities
  • Conformity assessment
  • Availability of guidance or capacity building resources

As Co-Chairs of this panel, we recognize that YPs will continue to make significant contributions within IEC, ISO and national standards-related work.

We ask that you please provide this Advisory Panel with ideas, thoughts, opinions and needs regarding an SCC Canadian Young Professionals Program. This will provide valuable insight into how this program is developed and implemented as a valuable resource for the experts of tomorrow.

Encourage & Solicit Panel Discussion

We also encourage you to solicit other young professionals within your field: colleagues, other SCC Members and like-minded professionals who can help grow this organic workspace and provide SCC with useful feedback when developing this Canadian YP Program. We hope to use this panel as a stepping stone for implementing a fully functional, up to date YP Program that will help drive the standardization efforts of Canada for years to come.

Please provide us with feedback as we hope to compile all information and incorporate it into SCC's new YP Program. Note that all participation on this panel is virtual.

Thank you.

Supporting Young Professionals in the Standardization Process

Once Young Professionals are brought into the standardization system, the processes involved in standardization can be confusing. It is important for SCC to provide the proper services to support them.

What elements of standardization are most confusing to new participants in the process?

Hi Everyone,

Thanks to those who already contributed to this forum -- we greatly appreciate your feedback. We took some time to review the responses and are drilling down on a couple areas.

One of the topics that was brought up in the initial consultation was communication. Clearly, for any Young Professional Program to succeed, young professionals need to hear about it.

Here are some additional questions - please answer any or all:
