To "Uber" or not to "uber" ?

Lately, the debate surrounding the topic of regulating the collaborative/shared economy has greatly intensified. From government official and business owners, to academics and regular bar goers,  everyone has an opinion on the question: To regulate collaborative platforms or to not regulate them, in other words: to "uber" or not to 'uber"?

Recently, there has been a lot of talk about an ecological sanitation system. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 2.5 billion people have no access to safe, clean toilets and 1 billion are forced to defecate in the open. The devastating consequences of these practices include an estimated 1 million preventable deaths per year,
primarily from dysentery-like diarrheal diseases.

Hi everyone,

I thought this was very interesting given standards discussions about consumer issues related to the sharing economy at ISO/COPOLCO and other forums recently.

e-cigs to be banned in public places and work places in Ottawa?

qredekop's picture
Submitted by qredekop on Mon, 2015/12/07 - 13:21 to Consumer Safety / Sécurité des consommateurs

It has been an active week for e-cigarettes this first week of December. On Thursday the e-cigarette committee was set up at ISO (ISO/TC126/SC3). Today, the Ottawa Board of Health votes on a motion to regulate "e-cigarettes and smoking of non-tobacco combustible substances in public places and work places." I guess since the province of Ontario sent out mixed messages last month, it's time for the municipal governments to step up? Too extreme? A good idea? I'm very interested in your thoughts and also of the thoughts of different consumer groups and affected groups in Ottawa.
