Background
The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is a signatory member of the International Accreditation Forum, Inc. (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), which facilitate trade and support regulators by operating worldwide mutual recognition arrangements among accreditation bodies (ABs). These arrangements enable global acceptance of results issued by conformity assessment bodies (CABs) accredited by IAF and ILAC members.
While SCC recognizes and promotes the IAF’s Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MLA) and ILAC’s Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA), there are regulated areas in Canada where SCC must assess against additional requirements. As such, CABs can only claim SCC accreditation once they have a valid SCC published scope.
For reference, if additional requirements apply, they are outlined in the Scope section of SCC’s Requirements and Guidance document for the respective accreditation program.
