SCC’s Inspection Body Accreditation Program (IBAP) requires the use of SPE-1000 for the inspection of electrical products. A revision of SPE-1000 was published on May 31st, 2013. SCC has now completed consultation with the Canadian Advisory Committee on Electrical Safety on our adoption of SPE-1000-2013 in IBAP.
SCC accredited Inspection Bodies (IBs) for electrical safety are required to implement SPE-1000-13 in its entirety, within their programs by April 1, 2014. IBs must submit to SCC in writing by March 14, 2014, conformation of the following transition.
Provisions have been made within the inspection body to implement the SPE-1000-13 version in its entirety, including at least the following:
- Transition of the inspection requirements to SPE-1000-13 by April 1, 2014.
- The inspection policies and procedures reflect the implementation of SPE-1000-13
- The IB staff and inspectors have undergone adequate training on the aforementioned updates to the policies and procedures
- They are aware of all changes to the requirements of, and new requirements set out in SPE-1000-13
- The IB staff and inspectors have undergone adequate training on the new requirements of SPE-1000-13.
SCC will verify implementation of SPE-1000-13 and transition to this new version in its inspection program at this fiscal year’s regularly scheduled assessments, starting April 1, 2014.
