As the official Canadian member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is seeking feedback on ISO’s new work item proposal for the development of new standards on fine bubble technology. All responses submitted to SCC serve to generate a Canadian position.

Purpose and justification for new field of activity

No single ISO Technical Committee would be able to develop the number of application standards necessary to cover the range of potential phenomena created by fine bubbles.

Fine bubbles, or ultrafine bubbles, have a potential to bring enormous benefits to a wide range of applications and for the users of the applications to reap the benefits of the new technology. Specific conditions and positive effects of each application need to be defined clearly.

Stakeholders affected would include: manufactures of generators, of measurement equipment, and of application equipment, including those of machine cleaning industry, food industry, construction and civil engineering industry, semi-conductor manufacturing industry for the cleaning effect.

Scope of proposed technical activity

Standardization of terms and definitions, classifications in sizes and characteristics, and other aspects related to measurements, functions and applications in the field of "fine bubbles."

Please see the attached Annex.

Comments requested

Stakeholders are invited to consider the following when formulating a response:

  1. Is the proposed scope relevant and does it use appropriate terminology, or is the scope too broad or too specific?
  2. Could the development of this proposed standard impact your sector negatively or positively and why?
  3. Will the development of this proposed standard benefit your sector or will it pose challenges?
  4. If this field of technical activity is regulated, will the proposed development of this standard complement it or not?

Deadline for survey submission

The SCC values your feedback on this proposal. Please fill out the Stakeholder feedback form no later than April 25, 2013.
