The Standards Council of Canada’s (SCC’s) Mirror Committee for the International Electrotechnical Commission/Technical Committee (TC) 111 (CSC/IEC/TC 111) is dedicated to the environmental standardization for electrical and electronic products and systems. Through horizontal standards development for direct use by the electronics industry, suppliers and national standards development organizations, CSC/IEC/TC 111 is addressing major challenges associated with the rapid introduction of environmental regulations and is promoting Canadian interests to be effectively represented on IEC/TC 111. The mirror committee’s significant contributions to developing and authoring published and draft IEC documents have reinforced Canada’s active role in the standards development activities of IEC/TC 111 since 2005. Furthermore, the mirror committee’s efforts to publicize standards for Canadian industry and government through comprehensive publications and presentations have helped promote awareness of IEC standards for environmental compliance and electronic waste.
