The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) recently signed a Cooperation Arrangement with the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS), the national standards body of South Korea, to advance cooperation between both organizations.
This Cooperation Arrangement builds on the Memorandum of Understanding that SCC and KATS had previously. The Arrangement will advance ongoing collaboration between SCC and KATS, particularly through the Asia-Pacific Cooperation Forum (APCF) and the Pacific Area Standards Congress (PASC). It will also support the Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement.
SCC’s mandate includes promoting efficient and effective standardization to advance the national economy, facilitate international trade, and further international cooperation in relation to standardization. Entering into arrangements with similar organizations in other countries is a means to deliver on this mandate.
The relationship between Canada and Korea is important for both countries, and Canada’s first free trade agreement with an Asian partner was with Korea. SCC and KATS have a longstanding relationship, and I am delighted to sign this arrangement to enable us to continue working together in areas of mutual interest.”
Chantal Guay, SCC CEO
Based on the cooperative relationship sustained between Korea and Canada so far, I hope that the renewal of this cooperation arrangement would bring and boost more active cooperations of mutual interest between the two."
Namyong Her, KATS Administrator
