The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) has successfully renewed two important Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Mexico’s Dirección General de Normas (DGN).
The renewed MOUs take effect on April 15th of this year and ensure that Canada, the U.S. and Mexico will continue to work cooperatively in the areas of standardization and conformity assessment for the mutual benefit of all three countries that comprise the North American trading bloc.
Specifically, the MOUs between SCC, ANSI and DGN recognize the desirability of the global use of international standards; ensure that each country’s national standards do not create technical barriers to trade; and guarantee that the application of national standards help to facilitate international trade.
“Renewing the MOUs is a positive step that reinforces the value each country places on standards,” said John Walter, Chief Executive Officer of SCC. “It also shows the depth of cooperation and mutual respect between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.”
