The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is pleased to announce that Dr. Mkabi Walcott has been appointed to the position of Vice-President, Standards and International Relations. Her appointment is effective July 30, 2018.
Dr. Walcott joined SCC in September 2017 as the Senior Director for Global Standards and has been leading the Standards Branch as acting Vice-President since April. Prior to joining SCC, she was the Chief Executive Officer of the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards (SLBS). During her tenure leading SLBS, Dr. Walcott championed the alignment of all standardization and metrology programs with national economic and social priorities, designing stakeholder strategies focused on raising awareness among policy makers and the public and representing Saint Lucia in numerous policy related discussions with government and non-governmental officials.
During her 14-year career in standardization, Dr. Walcott has a breadth of experience in both technical and policy related standards work. She is currently the Co-Convener on Working Group 2 of ISO/DEVCO, the International Organization for Standardization committee to support developing countries, and had previously served on the ISO/DEVCO Chair’s Advisory Group. She also currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Pan American Standards Commission (COPANT), a regional standards body that comprises National Standards Bodies of the Americas.
Dr. Walcott holds a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and a Project Management Professional certificate. Her unique experience working for both large and small standards bodies in developed and developing countries provides a broad perspective and understanding of matters relevant to members from across the ISO family, and make her an excellent fit to lead Canada’s national and international standards programs.
