The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is pleased to congratulate two Canadian industry leaders, Shawn Paulsen and Marty Cole, who were elected to key positions at the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) during the IEC’s 81st General Meeting in Vladivostok, Russia.
Mr. Paulsen was elected as both IEC Vice-President and Chair of the IEC CAB for the 2018–2020 term. Mr. Paulsen has extensive experience and knowledge in various standardization-related topics, and has served on a wide variety of IEC boards and systems. His commitment and leadership was recognized this year when he was honoured with the IEC 1906 Award. Mr. Paulsen has a valuable mix of electrical engineering, conformity assessment and standards compliance policy expertise.
Mr. Cole was elected as a member of the IEC’s Conformity Assessment Board (CAB), which manages and supervises the IEC's conformity assessment activities. Mr. Cole is the Manager of Harsh and Hazardous Industries, Global Codes, Standards and Industry Specifications for Hubbell Canada LP. He has a wide breadth of experience in both technical and policy standards work, having been involved with a number of important Canadian and international organizations as either a member or a Chair of various committees.

Having Canadian experts in important positions such as these will give Canada has a strong voice in the decision-making process and help ensure Canadian competitiveness in the years to come.
