Trade in second-hand goods continues to grow every year, particularly in developing countries and countries with transitional economies. End users purchasing these products expect them to be safe, free from defects, and to last for a reasonable amount of time, even in their second-hand state.
Canadian Rae Dulmage is the Chair of the ISO committee on cross-border trade of second-hand goods. In a new ISOfocus interview, “What to expect when buying second-hand goods”, he offers insights and expertise on why consumers can shop at resellers of second-hand products with confidence. His comments on the current and future work of the committee for ISO/TS 20245:2014 – Cross-Border Trade of Second-Hand Goods, and what consumers need to be aware of provide an example of international standards leadership.
By participating in standards development, like Mr. Dulmage and thousands of other Canadians who contribute, you are at the very forefront of your industry, while helping to advance the health, safety and economic well-being of all Canadians.
