Corinne Pohlmann, Senior Vice-President of National Affairs for the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB), will give a keynote presentation entitled “Engaging Small Business in the Value of Standards” at SCC’s 2014 Awards and World Standards Day networking reception on October 15, at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.
Corinne is responsible for managing CFIB’s strategic direction on national affairs, and sensitizing governments to the needs of Canada’s independent businesses. In addition to her federal legislative responsibilities, Corinne also oversees CFIB’s Business Resources function, Atlantic Canada legislative team and several major marketing initiatives. SCC is thrilled that she will be sharing her insights on the small business perspective, which is an issue of great importance for the standardization community, as well as for entrepreneurs and small- to medium-sized enterprises looking to increase their competitive advantage. Corinne’s presentation will certainly be thought-provoking and shed some light on how standards setters can engage business and impart the value that standards have to offer.
All members of the public, including industry, government and consumer stakeholders, are invited to attend this exciting networking opportunity, where participants will be able to interact with VIPs from across Canada’s standardization landscape. In keeping with the international World Standards Day theme of “Standards level the playing field”, attendees will also learn how standards provide a distinct competitive advantage in the global marketplace, and how standardization helps to improve the health, safety and economic well-being of all Canadians.
