Public safety is a crucial component of Canada’s standardization network. SCC contributes to both the policy and technical level federal, provincial, and territorial (FPT) committees and works alongside provincial and territorial regulatory authorities to align standards, conformity assessment and other recognized documents (ORDs) referenced in P/T regulations and enhance coordination across Canada. These committees also contribute to the safe and accredited inspection and certification of products and services across Canada
SCC works with these committees to strengthen the interdependent relationships between technical and policy level advisory committees that improve the standardization system by:
- Supporting the reconciliation of regulatory barriers to trade;
- Strengthening harmonization and cohesiveness of public safety regulation through standardization policy and governance advice;
- Facilitating the identification, development, and review of critical standards and codes to support the alignment of regulations; and
- Coordinating stakeholders across the network to leverage common objectives, reduce duplication of efforts, and align priorities.
SCC works with the following FPT committees:
- PTAC: Provincial Territorial Advisory Committee
- Regulatory Authority Advisory Bodies (RAAB)
- NPSAC: National Public Safety Advisory Committee
- PTPACC: Provincial and Territorial Policy Advisory Committee on Codes
