Business and industry

Globalization, competition, innovation, sustainability, and accountability are just some of the many challenges of running a successful business in the 21st century. Standards and conformity assessment play a vital role in helping industry meet rapidly evolving business requirements.

Enabling industry to make the most of voluntary standardization is the Standards Council of Canada’s (SCC) business. SCC has numerous programs, services and resources designed to support companies of all types and sizes as they strive to secure and ensure a prosperous future.

Possible tax credit eligibility for standardization-related work

Businesses participating in standards-related work may be able to benefit from certain standardization-related expenses under the Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) Tax Credit.

SCC represents Canada within the international standards community and serves as the country’s national accreditation body. For organizations that develop standards and those that verify conformity to standards, accreditation by SCC provides independent confirmation that they are qualified to do their jobs. SCC accreditation is based on international guidelines and is recognized by numerous other countries through mutual recognition agreements.

The Autumn 2006/ Winter 2007 issue of CONSENSUS magazine explores the role for standards in helping Canadian small and medium-sized businesses  save money and increase profits, enhance productivity and consumer confidence and open doors to new markets here and abroad.
