A Standards Council of Canada (SCC) video helps Canadian innovators in the clean technology (clean tech) industry learn more about Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) and how it can help their products stand out.
Helping Canada’s Clean Tech Industry Compete and Grow
New technologies can face market resistance because they are unable to demonstrate a successful track record. ISO 14034 Environmental management -- Environmental technology verification (ETV) is an international standard developed with Canadian participation (supported by SCC and led by Environment and Climate Change Canada) that provides verified evidence of the performance claims of new technologies. In essence, ETV acts as a “seal of approval” that backs up claims of clean tech companies and helps them compete in Canada and markets around the world.
SCC’s video describes the benefits of ETV and clearly lays out the process for businesses and innovators to meet its requirements.
About ETV
Environmental issues such as climate change, air quality, clean water and clean soil create challenges for countries around the world, including Canada. Innovative technologies and products can help address some of these challenges by reducing pollutants and emissions. ETV helps demonstrate these products live up to their performance claims.
ETV was first introduced in Canada in 1997 to support the implementation of an increasing number of emerging environmental technologies. It provides an independent evaluation of these technologies’ performance claims to ensure they are valid, credible and supported by quality test data and information.
ISO 14034 Environmental management -- Environmental technology verification (ETV) outlines a formal process for verifying these new and innovative environmental technologies. By following the standard, an independent party can effectively assess test results so they can be considered reliable. This stamp of approval allows companies to have their products accepted in Canada and around the world—and gives them an advantage in today’s competitive global economy.
But ETV does not just support innovators and Canada’s growing clean tech industry. It also gives consumers, regulators, and other parties confidence in these products because they know they are backed up by science, high-quality data, and recognized protocols.
