Director General, CEN (the European Committee for Standardization) and CENELEC (the European Electrotechnical Committee for Standardization)
In January 2010, Mrs. Elena Santiago Cid was appointed as the common Director General of CEN (the European Committee for Standardization) and CENELEC (the European Electrotechnical Committee for Standardization). Mrs. Santiago brings considerable experience to the position, having been the Director General of CENELEC since 1 September 2003, where her responsibilities include the direction and management of the CENELEC Central Secretariat, providing executive support to the activities of the CENELEC General Assembly, Administrative Board (CA) and its advisory committees. In her current role, she manages the institutional relations with the European Commission and European Free Trade Association (EFTA), and is responsible for the relations with CENELEC's European sister organizations, CEN and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), being a member of the Joint Presidents Group (JPG), as well as relations with the International Electrotechnical Commission.
Prior to her appointment at CENELEC, Mrs. Santiago was Director External Relations at AENOR, the Spanish member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), CEN and CENELEC and was seconded to the European Commission as Spanish national expert in DG Enterprise and Industry.
Mrs. Santiago received a degree in Electronic Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, which included an Erasmus project at the University of Augsburg, Germany.
